Cars in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Police mentioned they were alerted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
