'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the dramatic final moments of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range strike from 25 yards, and his teammate quickly converted the loose ball before charging toward the crowd to mark the goal, with fans mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result completed an incredible turnaround given Swansea had been behind 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win secured a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who praised the way Orient attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a tough attitude and concentration just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in his new home. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away fixtures against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's only game for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he comments, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I believed I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to socialize with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on the Tube after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
